There is a glamorized notion of whom and what a writer is; how we live,
how we write, how we are.A whimsical character, a hermit, tucked away in a secluded paradise of
sorts. A routine that consists of waking, writing over coffee, daydreaming,
writing, going out, having dinner, writing over wine, and off to bed late at
night after capturing that essence and energy that only happens at night after
most have retired.
However, most writers have to work day jobs to pay the bills. We live
in the city and suburbs and the country too. Routines can be nonexistent as one
may have to squeeze in the time to write and dive into inspiration. All the
famous writers have worked this way. Most weren't rich or famous, or even truly
appreciated until after their deaths.
When the money doesn't roll in, we do not decide to hang it up and move
on. When the reward of fame bestows upon those with more drive for such and it
seems like no one is reading, we keep writing. We write for none of this. We
write as one eats, we write to nourish our souls.
“Art is long and life is short, and success is very far off.”
~ Joseph Conrad
